Meet the people behind the greatness

Logan Biles Received his Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education from the VanderCook College of Music in Chicago, IL and his Master’s Degree in Saxophone Performance from the University of Notre Dame. Currently, he teaches Band, Jazz and AP Music Theory at the Las Vegas Academy and is pursuing his Doctorate in Instrumental Conducting under Professor Tom Leslie at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.

Brian Downey earned his Bachelor’s degree in music education from the University of New Mexico and a Masters in Arts from Southern Oregon University through the American Band College.  While earning his undergraduate degree he was Bass Trombonist in the Santa Fe Symphony for three years and a substitute for the New Mexico Symphony.  In 2005, String Band and Orchestra Magazine named Mr. Downey as Nevada’s Teacher That Makes a Difference in Music Education in America.  In addition, Mr. Downey is a former director for the Las Vegas Youth Symphony, has been the president of the Clark County Band Director Association (2001-2003), and is a past president for the Nevada Music Educators Association (2003-2009).  This will be Mr. Downey’s fifth year teaching at Las Vegas Academy.

Mr. Downey can be emailed at downebt@interact.ccsd.net

Karen Camuglia is a Milwaukee native whose greatest joy is being a Mom.  She and her husband Rosario have lived in Las Vegas for 18 years.  She comes to the Las Vegas Academy through the often traveled path of dentistry. After working as a dental consultant, Karen decided to torment her children by following them to school daily. She worked as the Band Aide at Hyde Park before coming to LVA. Her oldest son, Frankie, graduated in 2008, and currently attends the Colburn School in Los Angeles as a flute performance major.  Her youngest son, Vinnie, graduated in 2010, and now attends Northwestern University-Bienen School of Music as a clarinet performance major. "I may no longer have any of my children attending the Academy, but there is no where else that I would rather be.  I have the best job in the world!"

Ms. Camuglia can be emailed at kcamuglia@interact.ccsd.net
